Perfectly synchronized domino-ception

In May 2018, Anomaly launched their creative platform for T-Mobile, called "A World of Screens." From that moment, all T-Mobile advertising—from TVCs to OOH, from social media to banners—was brimming with screens. By the end of the year, Anomaly was tasked with developing a special sales campaign that deserved its own distinctive flair. Anomaly aimed to emphasize the urgency of subscribing to Unlimited by showcasing the hero racing through thousands of phones, tumbling like dominos, to reach the final destination: a T-Mobile store set in a hyper-realistic environment. The campaign would be the perfect opportunity to expand the World of Screens into a hyper-realistic "sales campaign" environment.

THE ASSIGNMENT

TV spot for a T-Mobile campaign, featuring a complex combination of simulated (like dominoes) smartphones integrated with live-action on the screens, all perfectly synchronized. We designed an extensive setup of CG smartphone rows, all falling and connecting like dominoes. On the screens, the hero would perform a series of action shots, all perfectly synchronized with the falling domino rows. The smartphone domino setup would be CG, and the action on the screens would be live-action. We aimed to make it appear as though all the action was meticulously arranged by real people, with the final result genuinely captured on camera.

OUR ROLE

As a producer, managed the Design/CG/VFX side of production. All live-action production was handled by Bastiaan Mast. — Managed the playground, treatment, and the pitch (which we won) — Main point of contact for all production and financial needs — Scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and planning all milestones/reviews with the client — Clear communication between all stakeholders and staff — Managed the team from pitch to final delivery — Handled client reviews, approvals, and deliveries — Billing, collecting final assets, approved creditor lists, and portfolio live dates
